The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is very well known for its array of varied bosses. Here is a guide of all the bosses in the game and tips on how to defeat them!
Ball 'N Chain Trooper
The Ball 'N Chain Trooper is your first battle in the game. He resides in the basement of Hyrule Castle, where he guards Zelda's prison cell. He has a powerful weapon known as the morning star, which he will twirl around the room above his head trying to hit you with it. This is his only attack. So the moments between his offenses are the opportune times to strike him with your sword.
Armos Knights

The Armos Knights are a clan of six strong knights who move in pre-determined patterns. The key to defeating them is to memorize their movements and when you see an opportunity to strike with your sword or bow and arrow, do it. The first pattern that they will perform is a circle. They begin slowly dancing in a circle formation at the center of the room and even pulsate in and out of the circle. After that, they will stop momentarily, and then create a line formation at the top of the room, which then, they will make their way down the room. This is the perfect opportunity to attack them with your bow and arrow. After they make their way to the bottom part of the screen, they will once again form a circle. Try not to get stuck in the middle of their circle, as you will have a greater chance of being attacked this way. If you do happen to get stuck here, do a spin attack just as they squeeze in on you.
Once you defeat five of the Armos Knights, the final knight will turn red and grow a whole new set of attacks. He will begin jumping into the air and fly over to where you are and slam back down, trying to smash you into the ground. The key to defeating this last Armos Knight is to keep on moving and never stop. As long as you do that, he will have a lesser chance of attacking you. As you continue finding ways to attack him back, his jumps will become shorter and faster. Keep on attacking him and don't give him the extra advantage by standing still even for a split second.
Lanmolas
Your battle with three sand-dwelling worms will be pretty intense! They shoot four objects in an "X" pattern as they exit the sand and jump into the air. Their weak spot is their head and the best time to strike them is when they are just exiting the sand, or entering it. Once you have destroyed two LANMOLAS, the one left will then throw eight objects as it exits the sand (four in an "X" pattern and another four in a "+" pattern). Continue to attack its head until it is destroyed. It sounds simpler than it is.
Moldorm

This boss is hard! It always takes a few tries to defeat the giant yellow worm known as Moldorm. It moves fast and has NO preset movements. It basically moves around a floor with a hole in it and no boundary. If you hit it in the wrong spot, Moldorm's body will bounce you backwards. The trick is to hit his rattling tail. When you hit his tail, he will curl up in a ball for about one second. Once you hit it five times, Moldorm will begin to move very fast, his body will grow shorter, and your chances of falling off of the arena will increase greatly. Stay focused on his tail- you only need to hit it one more time in order to defeat him. If you should ever get knocked off, go back to the double line of POTS on the floor below to refill your life meter, because Moldorm's life will regenerate to full by the time you get back up to the boss room. The spin attack is not useful for this particular boss, since your sword ricochets off his body if you hit him in the wrong spot.
Moldorm is a very frustrating boss and it will more than likely take a few tries to defeat him.
Agahnim (First Battle)
This boss is very magic-oriented. His magical spells are powerful, but not unbeatable. First rule of this battle, you can NOT attack Agahnim with physical contact. That means, hitting him with your sword is out of the question. If you do, you will be electrocuted. The key to winning this battle is watching how Agahnim moves. He will change positions in the room, teleporting to one place, then another. He has three attacks: Red Orb, Blue Orb, and Electric Storm.
- Red Orb Attack: This is the attack you are looking for. It is a simple orb that quickly flashes red and blue. He will shoot it at you and when it comes close enough, use your sword to fling it back into his face. This is the only way you can attack Agahnim.
- Blue Orb Attack: You never know when Agahnim will use this attack. When he shoots it, it looks like four rotating blue orbs. If you hit this with your sword, it will shatter into six smaller orbs, increasing the chances of getting hurt. Your best chances are to simply dodge it and when it hits a wall, dodge the orbs as they bounce off.
- Electric Storm: Any other time, Agahnim will always be facing you, charging up his attack before he fires. You will know when Agahnim is going to perform the Electric Storm attack when he teleports to the upper-center of the room and doesn't follow your movements when you walk around the room. When you know that Agahnim isn't keeping an eye on you, walk up to the upper half of the room, so that the electricity doesn't effect you when he shoots it.
Helmasaur King
This boss is a toughie! The Helmsaur King has a powerful mask that covers its snout and your first goal during this battle is to shatter it. You can use the Hammer or Bombs to crack the mask since the mask is invincible to your sword. As you do this, Helmsaur King will shoot fireballs out of his mouth- After one is shot out, it will stop and then turn into three fireballs, which then all explode in an "X" pattern one at a time. Along with this attack, he will also use his spiked tail to try and attack you. You will know when he will attack you with his tails when he begins wagging it fiercely. Walk up to his face just before he lunges his tail at you, so you don't get hit. Once his mask is broken, all you have to do is continue attacking the face until he is destroyed.
Arrgus
Arrgus is a huge eyeball that is surrounded by tiny orbs. These orbs will slowly rotate around Arrgus, protecting him from any attacks, until they begin moving quickly and expand throughout the room. You need to use the Hookshot to grab each of the orbs and once you have them within your reach, attack each of them with your sword. When most of the orbs are gone, you can use your sword to attack Arrgus directly. After you hit him each time with your sword, Arrgus will jump into the air, then come falling back down, and begin skimming on the water, trying to smash into you. Your best chance is to use the spin attack at this point.
Mothula
One of the toughest bosses in the game is a gigantic moth named Mothula! During this battle, Mothula is not your main concern, it is actually your environment. For the first time, you will be fighting on a moving platform that is completely surrounded by spikes! Occasionally, the spikes will come loose from the ground and begin moving on the platform as well. While you try to gain a balanced foot during the battle, Mothula doesn't think twice about giving you any chances. He will shoot laser at you, three at a time. Your best chances of survival are to attack Mothula as fast as possible with the Fire Rod.
Blind
Easily, the toughest boss in the entire game! It will start off shooting lasers into the bottom half of the room and then stop, and move down to the lower half of the room, and begin shooting at the upper half of the room. Blind will continue to do this through out the entire fight! The challenge comes when you start attacking him. To give him damage, you must attack Blind's head. Eventually, his head will fall off and then begin shooting orbs everywhere in the room. As that head flies across the room, another head will grow back onto Blind's body. As with many other boss fights, you make haste and keep attacking Blind's main head. There will come a point when multiple heads are flying about the room, shooting orbs everywhere, and Blind himself is also shooting at you. Your focus has to be Blind's head or you will not survive this battle. Don't waste one single second or attack.
Kholdstare
One of the easier boss battles is with Kholstare. You will see that this enemy is locked in a huge ice prison. While icicles are dropping from the ceiling, use your Fire Rod to break the layer of ice of Kholdstare. Once accomplished, it will then split into three parts and start trampling across the floor. Continue attacking the oncoming enemies with your sword, using the Spin Attack sparingly as it takes time to charge it and you may get hit.
Vitreous
This enemy is similar to Kholdstare in difficulty. Vitreous is a single eye that is covered in slime! Vitreous will hide under the green goo and attack you with its small eyes. At the point it reveals itself from under the slime, move to either side of the room because Vitreous will perform an electrical attack. Once all the eyes are gone, Vitreus will then hop around the room, coming straight at you until you destroy it.
Trinexx

This enemy is one of the hardest! You should have plenty of magic potion stored up for this battle, because you will need it! It is a three-headed dragon, but the twist is that each head has to be defeated differently. There is a red head (fire), blue head (ice), and a center head (stone). The red head shoots fire at you, the center head reaches out to bite you, while the blue head turns the floor to ice, which really complicates things a lot! The blue head should be your first target during this battle. (Once the floor turns to ice, it won't turn back, and during this battle, you NEED traction!) Use the Fire Rod to attack the Blue Head. You will notice that you will end up using a lot of magic power! When the blue head has been defeated, then go for the red head. The only way you can attack it is with the Ice Rod!
Once the two side heads are destroyed, the center head will bust out of its main body, and start moving around the room like Moldorm, with the exception that you must attack Trinexx's head with your sword.
Agahnim (Second Battle)
Agahnim's first battle was quite easy, but Nintendo found a very inconvenient way to make this next battle quite difficult. Agahnim still has all of his old moves:
But here is the twist: There are THREE Agahnims doing this at the same time, two of which are fake and the other one real! The real Agahnim, obviously, is the one you must attack!
Ganon
Once you obtain the silver arrows, you will be able to defeat Ganon. But don't use them until the end of the battle, they will become important later! The final battle with Ganon is split into three parts.
Part One - This battle will start out with Ganon teleporting to different parts of the room, using his magic staff to create fire bats all around his twirling staff. Then they will start to slowly expand and then each of them will fly at Link separately. You can not counter-attack or deflect any of this magic- you must dodge it. The key time to attacking Ganon with your sword is during times in which he is not on the offense (such as creating his fire bats). Continue to hit him as many times with your sword as possible until he starts firing at you again.
Part Two - Once you have attacked Ganon enough times, he will grow a whole new set of attacks. He will begin to teleport to different parts of the room. If you are too close to him, he will simply choose another place to reappear. The trick is to get far enough from him so he reappears and then run up to him and attack him before he makes a fire bat rotate around the floor in a circle pattern. You can prevent Ganon from performing this attack if you can manage to attack him before or after he jumps. You will also notice that the outer tiles are beginning to fall off from Ganon's movements. At this time, if you do not have the Silver Arrows, go ahead and fall off the floor's edge- you will land on the first floor of the Pyramid of Power, where then you can exit into the outside world. Once all sides of the floor's tiles have fallen off, the last part of the fight will occur.
Part Three - The light in the room will suddenly reduce greatly, but just enough so that you can still see the rest of the room. Ganon won't be seen, but as he teleports through the room, he will shoot a single fire bat at you. At this point, you know where he stands. Quickly fire a silver arrow at him before he teleports again, and then he will become visible. Run up to his body and start attacking him with your sword. He will grow invisible again and you must do it all over again, until he is dead.
