The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is my favorite game of all time to date. I have not found a game that exceeds its depth, adventure, cast, music, and sheer size. A Link to the Past is a story that tells of a young boy whom wakes up in the middle of the night to find his Uncle needing to take a stroll out into the stormy weather. Disobeying his Uncle's strict orders, Link gets out of bed due to his strange, yet realistic dream of a young girl in need of help. When Link continues to hear the same voice he heard in his dream, he heads to the castle only to find that his Uncle has been killed. And so starts the legendary adventure of a young boy, to save a princess, but ends up saving the world!
A Link to the Past was the first Zelda game to take the basis of the "Link obtains the Triforce" plot and offer it a REAL twist! The game featured two worlds, not just one, and player were introduced to a Hyrule that is controlled by Ganon, an alternate world known as the Dark World. This here, lies the heart of A Link to the Past- this huge adventure, with two worlds on the line. Only one will make it and it is up to Link to save the Light World!
A Link to the Past was also the first game to feature an emotional story among the epic adventure. The moment when the Flute Kid disappears, when the Great Fairy becomes obese, and when your Uncle dies, are all moments that any Zelda veteran has experienced and that is what they remember most about the game- the whole combination of adventure, action, and drama!
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, was arguably the most impacting game of the series to date. There were so many first-time features that appeared in A Link to the Past that have been continuously brought back in later sequels, such as the Spin Attack, Magic Meter, and even teleportation with a musical instrument. It featured thirteen huge levels, that spanned across two worlds (The Light World and The Dark World). The music fits perfectly in the game, and the overall aura of A Link to the Past is extremely epic.
A Link to the Past has been considered the best Zelda game among quite a few Zelda fans, leaving Ocarina of Time in the dust. Both games, very well done in fact, are epic adventures. But Ocarina of Time is loosely based on A Link to the Past, if you look very carefully.
The Legend of Zelda, available for Super Nintendo and GameBoy Advance, is easily the best two-dimensional Zelda game so far! It has defined the series so greatly, and has left its mark in not only the Legend, but video game history. The game was such a huge accomplishment and victory, that you can't help but play the game over and over! The game may not meet your expectations compared to games of today, but this was the Ocarina of Time back in 1992. Just imagine how people felt?! You can feel it too, if you just give it a try!
