Immediately after Zelda flees Hyrule Castle, enter the Back Alley. You'll find a wounded guard lying against the wall. He'll talk to you for a while, then stop moving.
If you defeat enough Stalkids, Leevers, or Guays, a large one will appear. Defeating it will yield a larger reward than normal.

Big Leever - Red Rupee or three Blue Rupees
Big Guay - Red Rupee
There are a few appearances by Mario characters in Ocarina of Time. The first is found in the Castle Courtyard, where the window on the right has portraits of various Mario characters inside. The second is the ranch girl Malon's brooch, which resembles the face of Mario's foe, Bowser.
You can do some strange things to Gossip Stones.
Smack a Gossip Stone with the Megaton Hammer, and it will go flat for a few seconds.
Shoot a Gossip Stone with a magic arrow, and it will spin, stretch out, then bounce back into its normal shape.
Blast a Gossip Stone with a bomb, and it will start a countdown before launching itself like a rocket.
As an adult, cast towards the fisherman and you can snag his hat. If you cast his hat into the water, he'll fine you 50 rupees and never wear the hat again.
The sinking lure is an illegal lure that makes catching bottom-dwelling fish dramatically easier. It is found in random locations around the rocks in the pond and along the stream. You won't be able to see it on the ground, so you'll have to do some searching around. Unfortunately, the fisherman will not reward you for anything you catch with the sinking lure, but he will still count record-breaking catches.
The Hylian Loach is a large, eel-like fish that is hard to find and even harder to catch. It typically only comes out at daybreak or sunset, and hangs at the bottom of the pond or under lilypads. The easiest way to see it is to wait until you hear the cuckoo at sunrise or the wolf at sunset and enter the Fishing Pond. Equip the Iron Boots, wade out into the pond, and look for it underwater. Ocassionally, the Loach will rise to the surface for a moment, during which it can be Z-targeted. The sinking lure is practically required to catch this fish, unless you can snag it while it's surfacing. The Hylian Loach weighs over 30 pounds.
